Asphalt Paving Estimating Services

Tonnage, base, mill, and overlay priced by estimators who have run paving crews. Every section, every lift, every truck from the plant to the paver.

Scope

What a Paving Estimate Covers

  • New pavement sections: areas and tonnage by section and lift, with the mix designs called out in the specs.
  • Aggregate base: tonnage by section, subgrade prep, and proof roll.
  • Mill and overlay: mill depths, millings haul or reuse, tack, and overlay tonnage.
  • Remove and replace: sawcut, removal, base repair, and patch paving.
  • Concrete: curb and gutter, valley gutters, ADA ramps, and drive approaches when they're in the paving scope.
  • Seal coat and striping: slurry, crack seal, striping, markings, and signage.
  • Adjustments: manholes, valve cans, and utility boxes to grade.
  • Traffic control: phasing, closures, and flagging for work in or near live traffic.

Where Paving Money Is Made or Lost

Paving is a logistics business. The number depends on plant distance and hours, trucks to keep the paver moving, crew production per shift, lift thickness, handwork around islands and ADA ramps, and how many mobilizations the phasing forces. We price the operation, not just the tons: plant pricing, trucking cycles, crew and equipment spread, and the realistic tons per day for the site layout.

We also check what the civil set doesn't say out loud: a pavement section that changed in an addendum, a geotech section that doesn't match the plans, a base spec that isn't locally available, or temperature and season limits on placement.

Paving Inside a Full Sitework Bid

Most paving scopes sit on top of grading and base. When we estimate the full package, subgrade, base, and paving are carried together so there's no gap or double count between the dirt and the asphalt. Need a paving-only number? We do that too. See sitework takeoffs for quantities only.

Common Questions

How do you calculate asphalt tonnage?

Area by pavement section times the compacted thickness of each lift times the unit weight of the mix, with waste and handwork factored in. Every section is separated so you can see the tonnage by area on the marked-up plans.

Do you get asphalt plant pricing?

On full bids we collect supplier quotes, including plant pricing, and put them in the number, or we use your plant pricing and trucking rates if you have them.
